Content curation and The Chicago Reporter

So, I’ve got content curation on the brain. Some “gut” feeling is telling me that The Chicago Reporter needs to be aggregating content relevant to the stories they cover. They need to be aggregating content about what they’re doing and what people are saying about them. Instead of going with a “gut” feeling, I decided to go with a “google” feeling and did a little research. Apparently, content curation can help a news organization boost their audience appeal. Through curation they can offer readers a service of sifting through the mass of content on the web and cherry picking the best content for them. Using Twitter and Facebook as a reporting tool

In an article posted on Poynter.com last week, Mallary Jean Tenore posted a list of 25 ways to cover elections using Facebook, Twitter and Storify that brought a lot of insight to the craft of crowdsourcing and audience engagement as it relates to reporting. Though political coverage is fairly specific, there are ways that some of Tenore’s recommendations on Facebook and Twitter can be used to cover anything locally.
